I have a site that was recently listed in the directory.

The site comes up under directory search, now listing the directory where it is found. //>path >

How much time does it take Yahoo to take the new directory listings into account for their web results?

The site title and decript is listed as I want. But I did request an additional category which I didn't receive. This additional category happens to contain an important second part of the search phrase.

Would I need to "repeal" the listing in order to re-suggest the second category and would the first listing be at risk if I decide to do so?

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Yahoo to give you another category unless one is a topical category and the other is a regional one related to the topical.

As for showing up in their index, if your site is new, you should be crawled in a month or less. If your site has been around for awhile, then you are probably already indexed in the regular search index.

Then, forgetting google for the moment, any idea on how much time it may take MSN to pick upon the Yahoo listing? Also, anybody really have a fix on the criteria Yahoo uses for returning Serp's these days?

Actually, there are two subjects you're asking about, if I'm reading it right. The directory listing and categories is one thing, Yahoo search is another.

how much time it may take MSN to pick upon the Yahoo listing?
MSN's own search is still beta but for the regular search they're still using Yahoo search data, so that would depend on Yahoo. If that's what you mean, mine seem to be turning up at MSN faster than at Yahoo, so the updates aren't concurrent for pages newly included in the index. But it will still depend on how quickly Yahoo picks up the sites after they're listed in the Directory. It's taken some new pages only a couple of weeks to turn up at MSN, recently - but that's got nothing to do with a directory listing, that's just going by when the pages were uploaded.

Also, anybody really have a fix on the criteria Yahoo uses for returning Serp's these days?
If you're referring to what it takes to rank well with Yahoo, that's a different story. That's a matter of having some quality inbound links, and the rest is the basics of on-page optimization.

Sometime back our site listed in Y! directory too and Y! search shows of Y! directory listing within two days.

IMO don't repeal before one month. Sometime they takes time and most of the times they ignored.

Good Luck! newreality
