If I am sending out a newsletter, and lets say 3000 people open and recieve my newsletter...

I would guess if you were offering $ 25 to everyone who e-mailed you, you might get say a 20% conversion rate. :D

there is no standard conversion rate.

it depends on
the quality / targeting of subscribers
the offer
the product
etc

Critter, we have a pretty successful monthly newsletter that we send to about 10,000+ people. We have found that readers only appreciate, keep and send on, those that have good free useful information.

We have tried a lot of different types of promotion in the newsletter and, in our market at least, no even a 50% off offer on some software makes much impact. I guess this is because people buy software etc when they need it, not because it's on special.

So, for us at least, it is mainly a way to keep our business in the minds and PC's of potential customers.

Our loooonnnng term aim is to increase the over-all quatlity and free content, drop most of our self-promotion and charge a small fee. However, regardless of the fee (thinking only about $12-$24 per year) we expect 50%, or greater, will drop it. With this in mind we are going to wait until we have a BIG number of subscribers.
