Google strongly disadvises the use of softwares like WebPositionGold, AgentWebRanking, etc. ? Do you still uses them ? Is there any risk ? Do you use other ways ?

PS : Sorry for my english : I'm French !

I generally do not recommend those specific software products. the only software I would use is link analysis or keyword tools.

software such as wpg is past its time in my opinion.

digital point has a tool which tracks keyword position vs time and works within googles guidelines.

But how to manage a worldwide seo campaign for several websites if you don't use such tools ? The one you propose me may be good, but it seems to me they simply don't fit in my case. :(

Bearing in mind your other thread about spam reporting, I'd be very carefull. On one hand you're upset about other webmasters beating you in the SERPS by what you consider spammy tactics, but on the other hand you're asking about ways to manipulate G results....

I know it's tough, but you just gotta focus strongly on your own sites worth to users, not other peoples ;-)

One mans spam is another mans legitimate optimization tactic, it's all good, you just gotta keep cranking out that valuable content!

Good luck.

Nick is right.

Story: My High School PE coach told me that I could run faster. I told him, that I am short and got short legs -- no way I could beat them other guys. He told me that I was looking back at them, and every time my head turned I would lose one-half of a step on the entire pack.

Moral: Don't look at the other guys. Look straight ahead at the target and focus on getting there.

competitive terms are primarily driven by link popularity and anchor text (in Google) so all you really need is to search for the right keywords and then get more links with those words in the text.

all you really need is keyword tools and link analysis.

some larger seo firms may use ranking software for their clients, but my general goal / technique / angle is to only accept clients that understand I will do a good job and do not need ranking reports.

when they see increased sales they will know I did well...

if you need ranking reports I know IBP does those and I have also heard good things about WebCEO, but I do not use ranking report and automation software.

I only use software to find the best words and then find where to get the links from with those words in them

I'dont want to manipulate Google, I just want (and so do my boss !) to control the efficency of my SEO strategy. BTW, perhaps I should have stated it before but if I ask for spam report, it's because my boss is ready ti use spamming tatctics and, like Bartleby, I'd rather not to ;) My point is that you may achieve top rankings but what's the point if your competiters can throw you down ?
Thanks for the softwares, I'll have a look :)

I've been using Web CEO for several months to check my google rankings - and everything's fine. I was also unsure about my IP-safety, but Web CEO has human-emulation features like random intervals before moving on to the next search page, between queries; it can fetch images and style sheets etc. and I calmed down.
