I plan to build some RSS content in my website, so my question is : does RSS increase PageRank ?

Not that I am aware of. It does increase your reach by providing more avenues for you to be found.

most rss processors show the results using java or some other type of technology which does not usually get indexed and does not usually get credited as backlinks

Yahoo seems to be leading the way on this right now. They are indexing them. They are nothing but XML files when you get right down to it.

Google on the other hand is hard to figure out. Here we have Blogger for instance which drops a file for their blogs which is normally called atom.xml for a filename. This file did show up in the Google index, but was labeled "filetype unknown". Figure that one out. :rolleyes:

You know, now that you bring it up. There are some good parsers out there that will display your feeds as standard Html.

Here is an example of somebody who needed some front page content and decided to use one of my feeds as filler -- Binary Circus (http://www.binarycircusmedia.com/). What gets me about this feed though, is that sometimes the links inside the content show up ... sometimes they don't. You will have to scroll down about two thirds of the page to see what I mean. The headline links are okay.

So I guess in this case an RSS feed could provide some backlink value. But since this is a one-page wonder of PR1 ... I don't think it would make too much of an impact.

Sure they can increase PR, providing (as hinted at above) you provide a clean xml/rss feed and ppl using your feed also provide it as clean html.

I love RSS, and Atom, they're great syndication tools and whether or not you gain extra incoming links that G can recognize, they improve the worth or your site and can bring in additional visitors...

If you're site is driven by a DB, they are easy to setup by hand, if not, then it takes a little time but is still quite acheivable.

Sorry, what is DB ?

DB = Database.

Anything a database can output in Html form, can be output in another form just as easily. Whether that be RSS or Atom -- they are both forms of XML. There are parsing scripts that can do this for you.

Thanks. IMO, Google must be working hard to index RSS because it is simply the same logic as PR : the more your RSS content is used, the better it may be, the better your website may be relevant as well.

Yahoo uses WebRank (WR). But I do not think it helps. It doesn't seem to anyway.

I thought it might even help to get some pages indexed quicker, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Yahoo has only indexed 8 pages while Google has indexed about 160.

Huh? Blogger uses Atom for syndication. It is interesting to note however that when an Atom.XML file shows up in the Google results it says File format: unrecognized (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=inurl%3A%2Fatom%2Exml).

The news feeds for Google News are in Atom... possibly the Atom feed is accepted by Blogger as an XML feed and interpreted but the format is not a recognized one (since it really is mainly for News)

They are? I did not know that. Where do you find the feed link at?
