I am a believer in long sales copy. The long sales copy I've used on my site has worked much better at converting visitors than the short sales copy. But then I have a higher ticket sales item ($99).
I'm starting to see, though, sales copy that goes beyond the description "long"--ENORMOUS would be a better world, or NEVER-ENDING.
Honestly, I -never- read all of that copy and almost always get bored and leave the site.
Does this super-ultra-long copy work for anybody?

a good number of those who take the time to write out all that long copy probably also are the type to tweak and test, so odds are long sales copy is effective for many.

I have seen long copy work quite well too. I have some pages that would be classified as very long, but people still seem to read them, or make it to the bottom of the page and click on an adsense ad or better yet click through to make a purchase. Weird behavior sometimes but yeah its works. I also have been testing the limit to which you should cap the copy. I know on several pages I limit it to 5 unique sections, as doing so gives the page a presence that make that information on the page more important.
However, I personally am not a fan of long "sales" copy, the type of copy that includes about 10 different highlighting colors, wordings, font sizes, lots of exclamation points, etc.. I don't trust it. But thats just me. Other inexperienced people do seem to soak it up.
