I have 3 TRAVEL reservation sites. Unfortunately directories for Google, DMOZ and Yahoo are often difficult to get into. Are there any directories out there, which would accept "commerical listings" for FREE? And get enough traffic to make it worth ones time to bother submitting to? I tried to submit to ZEAL, only to take the "test" and pass, then to find out that the "travel" category was locked. Gee wiz.....so frustrating...I assume because its a commercial category.

If not free, are there any out there that charge a very minimal fee, however and STILL guarantee inclusion?

Thanks for anyones help~

Thousands, and thousands and thousands....

Im sure a few folks will be happy to drop their link lists in here for you but untill they arrive just check out the acitve post lists on

forums.seochat.com
digitalpoint.com/
seo-guy.com/forum/
webworkshop.net/seoforum/

and that's just the tip of the iceberg! - check out their index pages too, soe of them have specific forums for directories..

Not a minute's doubt about that, to be sure; but there's really no need to drop them all again. ;)

There's already a ton of threads here at the forums with a ton of links to link lists and directories already; all it takes is a few minutes hunting them down. They don't stay on the active list forever and they aren't all that hard to find.

Best Directories (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=1748)

Directory Submission List (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=720)

Business Search Engines and Directories (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=27)

That should be a good start, all the links are already in those threads. There's some decent directories out there. Not all are free, but some are reasonable.

And here's a discussion about assessing the value

qualifiers for paying for directory listings (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=2697)

I would certainly recommend looking to pay for inclusion in a number of directories - I would definitely suggest not limiting yourself on just the cheapest, as with all things in life, the cheapest are not necessarily the best. Some directories are well established, others could be dead in 6 months.

Either way, the links Marcia provided include a good number of resources, and are certainly worth paying attention to.

I try not to link drop, but as it's entirely relevant, I have included my entire link building bookmark list at The Link Building Knowledge Base (http://www.linkbuilding.info) (http://www.linkbuilding.info)-- this includes directories, newswires and article sites that have recently reviewed and posted my submissions (a lot of directory lists contain out of date sites that no longer review submissions).

I also have listed links to other directory lists :) I know these lists are becoming rather common but let's face it this type of link building is becoming more and more important.

That's a fairly decent looking resource, anyway, notredamekid. :)

This is a very old thread so I closed it. SEW has evolved rules since 2004 around placing links that could be perceived as self promotion.

For an updated discussion on this topic please see: http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=21271

Please do not take that as an invitation to place your links within that thread. Discussion is OK and the names of the resources are OK, but not live links.

Thanks!
