I am working on building my links for my website, came across linkpartners.com. It looks like there is plenty of opportunity to trade links with PR4,5,6 sites(travel related) that are in the same general areas of my site although not direct competition. I am currently PR0. Does it make sense to trade links with them even though I have never heard of them, or does this go down the whole link farm road?

Is it worth targeting sites that are PR4,5,6 or is that a waste of time, should I be attempting to target Pr7,8 sites?

Thanks in advance

Trade links with whom ever you please. The only thing you have to remember is that its not who's linking to you that will do any damage, just who you link to. All that means is that if your a travel related site, from your post, then don't link to porn, pharmacy, casino, hate, distasteful absolute crap and non-relevant spam. People get to carried away with who they are going to link to. Rubbish, rubbish and more rubbish. A link is a link is a link, so get links from who you can and just remember that if its not really going to help your visitors, then don't link to it.

Don't worry about the PR factor so much. That is google and google alone. Last time I looked, them and Yahoo are pretty much well on an even par for daily queries. PageRank goes on a page by page basis, so regardless what the homepage is, if the page your linking from is PR0, then that's what you get in PR value, but you pick up quality within the anchor text regardless. Don't get sucked into this PageRank facet. It's all myth.

Read about linking here within the link forum and you will find plenty of info on good linking methods. I don't really endorse linkpartners.com because they sell of their own linking script which is very unfriendly in most aspects, and many of the sites within that directory have it attached. Possibly try something more like http://www.linkmarket.net instead. They still have spam sites in their, but again, you make the choice on who you link to, nobody else.

I hope that answers your basic questions. If you look down the bottom left of this forum, you will see an SEO Forum Roll, in which you can also find plenty of good quality information about the rights and wrongs off linking. Use commonsense, disregard the rest and apply sensibly, and you'll do just fine.

Trade links with quality sites in your industry. PageRank really should not be an issue as many low power links can add up to be as powerful or more powerful than the effects of a few high PR links.

When links are gathered naturally there is typically a high ratio of low power links to high power links. Plus by getting links from many locations you will not be hurt as bad by lossing one of the powerful links.
