I am looking for feedback and reports regarding the popularity and uses of International Top Level Domain names.
Clearly .com is king
.net has been a popular second with little regard to its originall intent.
.org also popular and has been used by Non-profits a but still suffers from identity issues as there is no control over being a Non-Profit or similar Organization or not.
.US
Being used by United States Businesses to identify themselves?
No, mostly marketers and profiteers looking for ways to gain market share with high traffic keyword names.
And this is true with virtually all TLDs. With exception of a few.
.TV
I have seen this TLD being used with more and more frequency as cable and broadcast TV are finally starting to integrate the Internet with their broadcasts. Since most .com names are taken for their shows the .TV still offers some opportunities.
.Mobi
In a similar fashion mobile content being produced by a variety of large concerns distinguish their mobile content using .mobi
These are my general observations based on the marketing that I see. Do you know of any reports that quantify the uses of TLDs? Do you spot any trends? Are most TLDs a flop, like .me .cc and the odd .tel?
