Do misspelled words hurt rankings?

Which engine in particular?

I agree with you with misspelled word you can get a very high ranking for that word and traffic. That happened to me a few times :)

Does anyone have recommendations for getting misspellings onto the pages of your website? It's not good to include them in the actual text as it looks sloppy and really puts me off when reading other sites and articles with bad grammar and spelling. Is there another way of helping to rank for misspellings, because I know this can be a good source of traffic?

I guess using the meta keyword tag is one option, but obviously Google doesn't use that, so not much good there. Alt text on images I guess can also work, but again you wouldn't want the misspellings to show up for visitors.

you can set up a bunch of pages that link from the site map with all other links going to proper pages and you only get links to the misspells from the site map page say under a list of misspells at the bottom of the list
