In the FAQ it states this:

Use the Rate This Post link that appears at the top of every post, next to the scales icon (you can also click on the scales icon itself). When you do this, a little window will pop-up. To add points to the poster's reputation, select "I Approve." To subtract points, select "I Disapprove."

Unfortunately, I can neither see a Rate this Post link nor have a little window open if I click on the scales icon (English isnt my first language, and Im not a 100% sure what "scales" means in the context of a forum, but my guess is that its the green reputation bar..Ive also tried to click everywhere else imagineable).

Does anyone have an idea why it doesn't work? Is it just me?

I was going to give someone a little reputation post for making good posts, and feel that person shouldnt be punished for my ignorance ;)

the scales is the way to pass reputation you can only do one person and then need to give to others before boosting again

I have never used it before and wanted to try it for the first time, but I simply cant see anything I could click on to rate a member's post..if Im the only one having this issue, though, I guess its not that important really maybe Im just messing something up and will see it later

NKOTB: You're not messing it up, it's not all that clear especially to someone for whom English is their second language.

On a post, the scale icon is above the "Join Date." You will see a post # (in this thread, your most recent is #3) and then there is a whitish icon that looks to me like a tree. It's really a scale - an old fashioned one used to compare 2 items to see which is heavier. Anyway, click on that and you will be able to give rep to the poster.

HTH, feel free to pm me if you still have trouble finding it.

Hi Mel,

thanks for the input :-). I actually do know what a scale is (though admittedly I wasnt sure if it might mean something else in this context), but I couldn't see anything like it anywhere.

Now, I can see it (between the post number of the thread & the "report post" sign), however I can only see it above the join date of VERY FEW posters. In this thread for example I can see it above my join date ;), however I cannot see it above your join date or above Aussiewebmaster's join date. I just checked out a couple of other threads and it's actually very rare that the scales item shows. For the majority of posts, I can only see the post number and the report post - signs. However, the scales item simply isn't there. Itried to see if it was only not there for moderators, or if it was only there for the people who started a thread, etc. ...but I cant see no pattern.

No idea, what could be the reason for this, but I can really see nothing but the post number...and...the report post signs above most users join dates. Seeing that scales icon is extremely rare
on my screen.

PS: hope its okay Im posting this here instead of sending you a PM about it, because I think this doesnt have anything to do with my inability to find/see it (thanks for the thorugh description, though, because now Im pretty sure it is not where it is supposed to be) as I can see it in some occasions so I know where it should be located (but isnt in most cases)

EDIT:

I just noticed there IS a pattern. I can see the scales icon EXCLUSIVELY about my own join date. I cannot see it above the join date of any other user.
