Hi all,

a site that I am about to work on is acting strangely in the Google index. Recently the page rank of almost every page on it has dropped to 0, and links are not being recognized. Even though some pages have links from every other page in the site to them, they show 0 backlinks.

In April the webmaster tools for it showed a warning about too many pages. At that time I excluded dynamically generated search results with a robots.txt file. I also added a sitemap with the pages that should be indexed (all of which are 4 clicks or less from any other page).

This site was never all that well indexed, but would show up for many search terms. The home page would have RP4 or 5, and the internal pages were mostly PR2. Now almost everything is showing 0.

Is there a way to fix this, or would it be better to start with a new domain name? The address is america411 dot info.

Thanks,
Ord

Thanks for the message.

I should have been clearer: 4 clicks is maximum, most are reachable 1 or 2 from other pages.

The ones I am really confused about are 3 pages that are linked from the common menu. Each page on the site has a link to each of those pages, but none of them show any internal backlinks.

Until 2 months ago everything was indexed the way I would expect, pages showed the right backlinks, I could see the page rank etc... The site has had the same link structure since it's launch in 2003.

Try to cut down the folder level, found some are very deep and have the most important links in home page

Best,

Thanks. I have a new design that is being put up next week, at the same time I will redo the folder structure.

Thats good.

If you are keen about the new look you can try having Browse listings by state links in the footer area so it can benefit both users and Search Engines to spider
