In reading different threads on a number of the forums I post on I have noticed that some people have forwarded that there has been a change in the PR algo that has caused internal pages to drop in toolbar PR.

I keep a list of all or most of the PR10 pages on the internet and 37 out of 152 pages dropped from PR10 to PR9s the last Oct 5th toolbar PR update. This is not uncommon as back in March 16th toolbar PR update of this year there was at least 24 or more PR10 pages dropped down to PR9s. See Search Engine Genie's March 2004 Google PageRank 10 Sites list (http://www.searchenginegenie.com/pagerank-10-sites-old-list-march.htm).

The PR10 pages were not the only place were there were toolbar PR dropped but it is one where an average can be monitored. Having 26% of pages in one toolbar PR value dropping down one place is no small thing.

As Google's index gains in size, if sites are not getting more links and there by gaining in PR they will drop from one toolbar PR unit range to the one below. This happens when a pages real PR is close to the bottom border of where a toolbar PR range starts.

I have been involved in a number of discussions on the forums as to the reason that pages are dropping and would be interested opening this point up for discussion.

As far as internal pages dropping this is also a normal thing when the home page drops in real PR value. If a site has most of it inbound links to the home page and the site has good link structure (fully meshed) the toolbar PR of the subs will reflect the strength of the home page.

When you see a home page at PRx and all the main fully meshed subs at PRx this indicates that the home page real PR is in the higher area in the toolbar PRx range. When you see the subs at PR(x-1) then the strength of the home page is more of a medium value and then you see the subs at PR(x-2) the home page's real PR is in the lower area of toolbar PR range.

Personally I don't think that the PR algo has been tighted up at all. Perhaps the Ranking weight of links has been changed to devalue site wides etc. but with the average of all pages in the Google index being 1 you can't start discounting the PR of a large number of pages with out effecting that over all average.

Wade in and share you insight into the reasons for internal pages dropping in toolbar PR while the home page remains the same toolbar PR.
