Until about a week or two ago, I had heard the term twitter, but didnt exactly know what it was (keep in mind im in Germany, were a secondary market for that kind of stuff so I get exposed to it later in everyday life).
Then I read about using twitter to generate traffic on a german SEO blog. Then I read about twitter and it wasting link authority on seobook. Now I saw a forum post about twitter on two other forums.
It all kind of reminds me how I first heard about Google. Google here, Google there, Google everything and everyone is using it.
not saying twitter will kill google in the near future or anything, but I find it interesting to see how the web has found a new way to generate web traffic and connect people.
What I find even more interesting is the implications this might have for SEO and getting traffic. If twitter search ends up being a legitimate search engine (for the heck of it let me assume it was the main search engine), it wouldnt c hange much about the way I build my sites.
Im not one to use the "content is king" label, but creating ideas/content that gets talked about (word-of-mouth..) will get you citations aka links on google, now. In twitter it'll get you talked about, too. Same for creating controversial content. It'll get talked about and pointed to..whether through links (linkbait) or through twittering...same thing for building brands..
It seems like whatever might happen to the way web traffic flows, that "Machines follow humans" line will stay true.
