hey seo-guys,
i like flash navigation so much that it is too hard for me not to implement one in my website. i think for user experience it's regardless weather to use flash or html navigation blocks. my question is, in which way does flash navigation take negative infulence on my website's ranking performance?
i saw sites with flash elemts that could be crawled completly through google including page rank transmissions. does google also relate flash links with a specific meaning like html links and their anchor-tags?
thanks for help

Might as well use Google as your reference http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/06/improved-flash-indexing.html

thanks for reply, you provided very good information on how google deals with flash. i think one of the main problems a flash navigation brings with it is that google 'does not generate any anchor text for Flash buttons which target some URL'. So this weakens the semantic part of internal linkbuilding, i think.

The operative part of the GWMC article is the first line of answer #1.
>We've improved our ability to index textual content in SWF files of all kinds
I added the emphasis on "improved". I would still say that html is a better option for full indexing and ranking.

You may have your navigation inside the <DIV> tag and SWF files are easily being crawled so you can go for it.

Since Google introduced improved support for Flash and simple javascript like SWFObject, Googlebot may not see content in the DIV.

Engines still rely on the structure present in hypertext. When it comes to an xml sitemap keep in mind that xml sitemaps are no promise of pages being indexed. If you are suggesting providing textual content seen in Flash via 3rd party like xml, Google doesn't associate text content from a third party with the Flash file and index both at the parent URL....
