i know that for blog to notify search engines that they have updated or added new content they can ping. But if u have a static website how do u inform search engines that unique content has been added. The problem is if someone else copies ur content and they happen to be crawled before you, they get the credit for the unique content in search engines, what is that way out for static websites to inform search engines about the update and get crawled faster? is social bookmarking of any help here? any other ideas/suggestions?

thanx everyone for reading,
Farhan.

The spiders crawl the site and compare to previous versions if new content is found they update the cache

thanx for answering,
i mean how do i make them crawl faster after i update the content. The normal cycle is say once a week they crawl. Is there a way out where i can ask them to crawl my just published content quickly so that it gets in the cache?

Do you have your site inside Webmaster Central? Is the site using a CMS like WordPress

it is a static CMS. i have not added it to webmaster central since i was advised against it. It is just a 15 page site and i was told not to submit it to webmaster central by an seo professional as it might loose its PR.

maybe some would say there is a difference between webmaster central vs. webmaster tools but also wmt could be thought of as part of webmaster central. anyhow definitely create a wmt account and submit a sitemap. as far as submitting through the webmaster central submit page, I think that's a waste of time for you. As to the "seo professional", he is totally wrong as neither of these things would hurt your PR.

yeah bad advice - I would not do the submit just the constant update of sitemap and changes to pages will get crawled

You don't need to change your website crawling rate. I saw many people re-submit their sitemap after adding new content, but i woudn;t recommend it, because i'd nagative effect in past.
I suggest you to have some book marking for fresh pages, Google will cache it soon...

it actually happened once. Even after his advise i submitted and within few days i lost my PR(the site is very small around 15 pages right now). i hope to keep adding content daily so that the spiders start crawling daily.........i would like to ask u guys: i am adding content daily to my website. Right now me using a static cms. Should i switch over to wordpess? any benefits from SEO point of view. Or should i let it be the way it is?

if you plan on growing the site to any size a dynamic CMS is good and wordpress is pretty easy and has plug ins to help with all sorts of things
