Hello,
11 sites, all suddenly disappeared in yahoo and msn without an apparent reason.
They have been in the first page of yahoo and msn from years and for several important keywords. Now we are no more included at all in their database.
Doing very good on Google, neved did spam, only interlinking each other from only the index pages (but from many years...and besides I think it's natural).
It seems like we have been "penalized" for something. I'm searching for a possible cause for that, but I really don't see the reason.
I'm really disappointed...this could cost us a lot. :(
Please let me know what you think.
Many thanks.

Welcome to the forums, asans.
Were the sites hosted at the same place, and are you on a unique IP, or shared IP?

Thanks Marcia,
They are on the same server...same IP.
Can really be that the problem? If it's so, why from years it's the first time I have a problem like this with a search engine?
Thanks again!

only interlinking each other from only the index pages.... oops first..
A lot of people of told me that Yahoo are banning Via IP address at the moment..
Also seen 2 class C's go south
A class C supports 254 hosts , so if your IP address is 192.168.0.xxx (1 - 255 ) that ip address is used for internal networks, your website will have an external IP

It can also happen if a site is down. A couple of months ago a hosting account expired for the year for one of my sites, I didn't want to use it again so I moved the site - not in time, it was offline for a few days. It went PR0 at Google, but will definitely recover. I've also had sites disappear from Google (with a unique IP, BTW) when the whole host went down - it took a month to get back in the index. It can also happen with other search engines, including Yahoo.
It has also happened that some hosts did things to either damage rankings of their hosted sites or hinder crawling. It sure pays to find out who else is hosted on that IP and see how their rankings are doing. 11 sites disappearing is a serious thing, you might want to look at different hosting options at ths time, or at least move one of the sites.
Yahoo's bot seems to be pretty diligent and aggressive lately. Are the sites still getting thoroughly crawled?

Well, I had a feeling that Yahoo doesn't really know what he is doing...but now I know it for sure!
From 2 days 10 out of 11 of my sites are back in Yahoo index (and, of course, on Msn) and about in the same position of before: in the first pages for all keywords.
Only one site is still missing, even if it appears for few keywords...very strange because it doesn't appear to be indexed!
However I'm happy because 10 sites are back...without doing any changes on them.
Today I have, finally, received a more specific reply from Yahoo to my explanation request.
They says that 3 out of 11 sites have been banned!! Among these 3 there is the one still missing...but the other two are now on the first pages for all keywords and they are indexed again!!
If these 3 sites have something wrong, why before ALL 11 sites disappeared from the index?
And why now 2 of 3 banned sites are instead back in the index?
The sites are all similar...then why 3 out of 11 have been banned?
Yahoo has no excuse...i think really it has nothing of logic.
I, Brian

Glad to see your sites have re-appeared. :)
That also foils any Blackhatted attempt to have the Yahoo webhosting services IP range accidentlly blacklisted by their own search department. :)

How did you contact Yahoo? I have a site that only the home page is indexed and none of the other pages are listed in Yahoo or MSN.

If only the homepage is indexed, check that the navigatlon and the rest of the site are spiderable. That's something you have to do yourself. There need to be some inbound links altogether anyway, and a site map is also a good idea.

Marcia,
Thanks for the reply. The site has a good linking structure and a site map that is accessible from the home page. The client forgot to implement a recommended 301 redirect. The site was receiving good rankings for www.2domainname.com, but the main domain was suppossed to be www.domain-name.com. They implemented the 301 redirect on www.2domainname.com a few months ago. I have registered www.domain-name.com on the Yahoo directory and about twenty other directories, but I am still not getting any listing other than the home page. I have also ruled out any robots tags issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have noticed that in the online travel sector a number of directory type sites now with only one page listed in Yahoo! - usually the home page- has anyone else made similar observations recently?

Hello,
It seems reallly incredible, but today it's happened again!!
11 sites out of 12 disappeared from Yahoo. Yesterday they were in the first page for many important keywords. Now if I search the domain it shows only the index page.
I really don't know what to think.
The first time they disappeared and then appeared again without doing any change. Now they are gone again...and of course I didn't any change after they came back.
Yahoo will drive me crazy, I'm really beginning to hate it!
