Buying Text Links?

I was wondering what your thoughts were about buying text links. Where is the best place to buy text links? Has anyone had any experience buying permanent text links? I'm actually more in favor of gaining links through article marketing, quality directories, and joint ventures but I'm always willing to give new strategies a chance.

IMO there are no central places to safely buy text links and this is not a good practice at all. However, strategic text links that are individually negotiated (with a seller who DOES NOT sell text links to others) can be ok if you are careful and keep an eye on them.
