Some say they do, others say they dont. My opinion, they do not affect SEO to any noticeable degree. Any impact is indirect: Domain names help with branding, which helps with traffic, which helps with industry respect, which helps with.....etc. So, my advice is to choose a name that's easy to properly brand.

But why many SEOs said that search engines give priority to the older domains?

Domain Age will really only have a factor at the beginning of your site's introduction to Google. After a month or so, Google will catch up with your site and re-rank based on content.
Tricky thing with Domain Age is it works both ways. A former good site with good age will help you in the beginning. However, a site that used bad practices will hurt you.
In the end, your own SEO campaigns will overwrite any Domain Age history.
