OK maybe I just missed this until now, BUT...
today doing a search for an industry term of mine, I noticed that the News Results is now making it's way from 2-10, smack dab in the middle of the organic placement, instead of being the first search at the top below the top Sponsored spots....
Anyone else seeing this and/or how long has this happened?
It kind of sucks, since I am gong from my #1-2 to 3 with it being in the #2 on my most important term...
I am seeing it in the 3 - 10 spots in other big terms for me...

Also, what is kind of interesting is that while it has moved from the top placement, it still is not counting towards the other 10, so it looks like there are 11 total spots including one for News...
It just seems to be moving according to whatever whim Google has decided upon for today I guess...

Any others see this/ any other thoughts on this?

Been that way for months. If you ranked #1 but now news is on top, you're still number one. To my knowledge "news" doesn't actually hold a numerical position so to speak in the serps.

IE, for "steve jobs" wikipedia ranks #1 but looks lower due to news:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=Xf1&q=steve+jobs&btnG=Search

Here we search for the first result only and news is still included:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=Xf1&q=steve+jobs&btnG=Search&num=1

Tip, make some news! : )

Feel free to give me a call if you need more information on this...

Hey Beu,
yeah, I am used to seeing the News Results at the very top, so I realize, that if it's above you, you're still considered #1...
However, the News Results itself was coming in at like #3,#4, #5, and #9 for a few searches.
The problem is visually when the news results are in the middle of the SERP itself, it really visually looks like you are getting pushed down however many spots.
When it's at the very top, it is more readily understood to not be considered a rank, but I kept getting calls yesterday as to why this was happening and why we had fallen that spot...
Interestingly today, the News Results are completely gone for my terms, but just wondering if this was an anomaly which I could expect to see again...

The universal search press release (http://www.google.com/intl/en/press/pressrel/universalsearch_20070516.html) from last year might help explain it to the folks you are getting calls from.

Beginning today, the company will incorporate information from a variety of previously separate sources – including videos, images, news, maps, books, and websites – into a single set of results.
You will see some of these in various positions depending on the search query. If they happen to appear in the old onebox position at the top of the SERPs then there are still 10 remaining slots. However, if Google incorporates them into the SERPs themselves, then yep, that's one or more slots gone for other results.

Google wants a little variety in the top spots. They also may place videos and even a map.

I am used to seeing the News Results at the very top,

True but they can show up at any position, could be some type of "hotness" factor at play but no one really knows.
