I like it much better than the green bars.

Ah Yes,

Now it is useful! I can't tell you how long I have wanted them to do this.... It's so great to now have definitive affirmation that those arbitrary green bars were crapola <--- that is Portuguese for quirky

I love this data. this really is a very very cool change :)

Agreed! This has been a long time coming. The Yahoo tool has had it for years. Finally, it's good to see this data from Google.

What I like best about this tool is that you can also discover high volume terms that you want to negative out and do so quickly.

So far it is grossly inaccurate. It has been under-eastimating my biggest volume drivers by about 40% in terms of volume of daily clicks.

How are you relating daily clicks to monthly search volume? With the keywords that I have spot checked Google estimated a greater search volume than keyword impressions for the same period. This would be the only way I could see checking the data, but they're still two different things (the keywords I checked had an average position of 2 or better, so they should always be on the first page).

Hi Dalton,

First if you talking clicks then you may be talking about the traffic estimation tool and not the Keyword tool.

The new KW tool:

No individual can truly relate their individual impression or click volume to what Google is estimating. AWR please correct me if my understanding of this is off.

QS, Match type, languages, geo and demo profiles we set will determine if our ad is displayed for any particular keyword search. Remember this is search only - Not content clicks or impressions.

The number Google is coming up with is an approximation of the total number searches for the ONE selected match type; so if you had a 100% match to Googles QS algo then for every KW search your ad will show equaling 1 impression. In this case you would hit near that total search volume number. Again, the number Google is showing is according to just 1 match type at a time. NOT the total volume for all three match types.

I understand that if you have an exact keyword match in your campaign that is producing over 10k impressions a day and when you estimate that same KW in the Google KW tool it comes up with insufficient data or a low number, something might be amiss.

Even if that is a flaw this tool gives advertisers a way to understand the variance of traffic volume between keywords for a particular theme. A quick and easy way to gauge volume, round out your campaigns with KW and Match Types, find new keywords and negative out KW's you didn't know would trigger your ad.

Discovery, thanks for your discussion. I would say my example most definately falls into the example you gave (of a keyword driving more than 10k in impressions per day, infact it drives closer to 3x that). This keywords sits in P1 all day, with no restrictions in terms of budget, Geo, CPC, etc, and I know for a fact that we have an above average/excellent QS. We have it set on 2 different match types. When I plug the keyword into TE the difference on exact match is 90% off, and on broad it is just over 50%.

Therefore, seeing as this took is so wildly off in terms of numbers, I certainly cannot use it for planning, and I'm even dubious about using it to compare traffic between verticals.

AWR, is the tool still being worked on - is what I am seeing a temporary glitch? Are other advertisers reporting inaccuracy to the tech support?

Thanks :-)

I think this tool is good but for some long tail keyword, they show that it is insufficient data. for the volume number , what is accurate percentage?
