How much importance do you think the serps place on age of domain?
Thanks

domain age is a factor but no idea of weight

It is starting to seem to me to have great weight. I am competing in a space that I am better optimized for with more and better backlinks by far and it is a continual fight to hold ground-

How old is your domain? My understanding is that you are on a "probation" period of one year. After that you should be ok. Does the other site have more content?
There are also other factors as well of course...

The domain is 3 years old. I have read that this is a significant factor.

Maybe the other domains are older? It kind of reminds me of the debate (in AdWords) about the make-up of the Quality Score. It's like a Google "Secret/Trust" score. We know some of the things that can pull you down or take you out of the index, but everything else is trial and error and "hunches." Google keeps tight to the *true* algorithm on purpose -- To keep the cheaters OUT.
If you send me a PM with your site URL, I'll see if I notice anything that maybe you aren't seeing.

Age of the site indeed matters a lot.
According to seomoz.org, its value stands at 4.1 (exceptionally important) on a scale of 5.0.

But 1 factor in the overal algorithm. But usually pretty important.

IMO site age is a stronger factor than the domain age. If that would not have been the case, all those parked domains if at some point would have been sold and a site would have been setup on them, would beat existing quality web sites. Don't you think?
