Do you mean blog posts? Not forum posts, right?
I think that the links offer credibility to your posts, plus give credit where credit is due.
I know that Google gives a certain weight to a hyper-linked text - So, that might help you. But, also it will help the site or page that you are linking *to*

Welcome to SEW joeldavis!
Links in blogs are most often nofollowed by default meaning no PageRank or anchor text juice flows. To see this in action, view source and find for "nofollow".
As far as forum links in sigs or other, some may allow it but most quality forums don't. Here at SEW we normally delete links and provide a few warnings before banning users for "link drops".
So in answer to your question, no it's better to develop quality content.

Yes it does,. because if visitors read your message on the message board, and at the same time they would probably click the links from your message. When they click on it, that helps to get more traffic to your website.
