Has anyone else seen this new phenomenon of having the ability to search the #1 organic listing website from the Google SERP page? I screen capped it but you should be able to see it yourself if you do a google search for "1up".

Never seen it before & don't know how it's done. Would be interested if anyone else has figured this out.
Note: A search for "microsoft" on google also generates the search bar sitelink.

It is an extension of site links... Google adds that search box and finds more pages for a site based on the search query

Hey aussie,
I realize what it is, just not how Google determines when/how to utilize it. I have tried searching a number of urls to see it appear again, but the only one I can get it to appear for is the 1up site. This would seem to be a huge advantage for whichever #1 listings Google adds this feature to, and it doesn't seem to be being applied in a predictable manner.

Some people do not agree that it is a huge advantage. Why would you want users to stay at Google and see competitors ads instead of having them go into your site/use your own site search? Apparantly Amazon was able to get Google to turn it off.

This assumes of course that they would have clicked on the link to your site and would have performed a similar second search there. To me its all about real estate, and that search box adds a lot of it to your listing. Beyond the search box, this additional real estate given to your listing, will markedly increase the amount of clicks to your listing or the sitelinks beneath it. Look at any heat map of a google SERP and you will see how valuable taking up as much room with a #1 listing can be.
BTW, <snip> are as close to clueless when it comes to anything but mismanaging large PPC accounts. <snip> runs PPC accounts with ROI below 1.0 until another consultant comes in and calls them on it. They track everything internally and do not tag things to work with GA, Omniture, or any other analytics program because:
A)Their PPC managers don't know how.
B)By doing so you would realize they are ripping you off.

I see your point, but having sitelinks, in itself, seems to accomplish the real estate and credibility goal. Adding the search box will cause some people to use it ;-) I would rather have them come into the site.
