Which is which? Is sponsored search the ads that will appear at the top or side after searching a keyword?

Sponsored ads are paid and yes top listings in generally a color shaded area and the ones on the right

And content match is ads that appear on content sites (not search sites). Ads are matched and served based on the content of the page. This is known as Adsense in the Google network.
