HI,
I am having some problems to show my ads with Keywords Insertions using trademark terms in UK. Since the 5th of May in UK, we can finally use trademark as Keywords. However, I did not know we were still not able to use them in the ad copy :( (it was too good to be true).
When I use Keyword Insertion, it only shows the optional text as if the keyword was too long. For example:
{KeyWord:Optional Text} rest of the ad!
I made the test with a 4 characters keyword which is trademarked. The ad is there but only with the" Optional Text" :(
Does anyone know if there is a way to show trademark terms?
Many thanks
Why don’t you use the trademark terms as it is in you ad copy instead of using {KeyWord:Optional Text} in your ad.
Like what you said, if your ads get approved, they will show the trademark terms in your copy by default.

I tried to put the trademark term straight away in the ad copy, but Google did not let me do that. Once the ad copy was created with the trademarked term in it, I clicked "saved" and Google alerted me of the impossibility to use these terms in my ad.
:-( Big surprise! I have been waiting for months to bid on trademarks BUT in fact you can not use it in the ad copy. :-(
I though KeyWord Insertion could have been a solution, but it appears that Google also recognizes trademarks through keywords insertion.
Does anyone have kind of a solution here?

You can use trademarks as keywords, but not in ad copy (no matter how you try and put it in, manual or DKI), unless you get specific permission from the trademark owner. Google polices this policy strongly.

Why do you want to do this anyway? It is surely much better to invest in building your own brand.
You will not have any relevany on the trademark term unless you are a reseller or affiliate, in which case the brand owner may well have an objection to you using their term anyway.
Organisations have found that bidding on rivals trademarked terms has not been profitable. Even after the May 5 policy change, CPC's on trademark terms remain very high. High
One method people are using to get round this is the use of misspellings and synonyms of the trademarked term although I do not condone this.

Because branded paid search converts at a rediculously high level if done right, but most of it is trademarked. I currently have several high impression campaigns that have a CTR of over 20%...all you need is to get permission and then target your copy and landing page accordingly.
As far as the issue at hand Philippeog...you need to talk with your adwords representative. If you have "proof of permission" to advertise on those trademarks, they can work with you so there are no issues moving forward.
If you don't...might need to get "creative".

LOL - Hopefully I wasn't misinterpreted...
"Creative" meaning, think of other ways to drive the traffic you want...but with a hint of sarcasm.

Thanks for that reply, attak.
Long day for me, and hours to go: I think I may have been losing my sense of humor as a result.
Ironically, I was actually returning to this thread to delete my post as inappropriate - but I wasn't quick enough.
Cheers!
Cheers right back. ;)

We have the same problem in the account i manage. My major problem with this policy is that it is no enforced equally and when someone "slips through the cracks" it means BIG returns for them and a competitive advantage that is hard to overcome.
In the retail market it's hard to perform well WITHOUT brands, and having those brands in your accounts can really murder your overall account quality scores. The thing that's unfortunate is that it really pushes out anyone except "big" retailers from advertising in the Consumer electronics market. You're not getting that nice proof of consent unless you're big enough for the manufacturers to care, and if you don't get it you might as well go somewhere else.
(sorry for the rant, i have a personal vendetta on this issue)

Thanks for your replies guys.
I guess I have 2 options here:
The first one, more black Hat, which relies on using tricky Keywords Insertions to be sure the brand will show in my Ad, without permission of the trademark owner...
Or
I can ask permission to the trademark owner to use their brands.
Being more white hat, I'll try the 2nd option then.
Cheers
