Hello everyone,

There seem to be quite a lot of different rules and regulations on posting in this area, which I'm hoping I won't fall foul of... Just wanted to draw your attention to www.findsyou.com and garner some feedback on the idea of a 'reverse search engine'. I have some blurb below which explains why the site exists, and how it works, but to be honest the easiest thing is to go and try it yourself. Clearly it's a website that will require a reasonably-sized user base before it starts to take off, but as I understand it, the company is proactively recruiting sellers for the site, as well as embarking on a big publicity drive for users in general.

Anyway, keen to hear your thoughts.

"What is www.FindsYou.com?

FindsYou.com is a new search website that aims to provide internet users with a more effective and accurate method of searching for goods and services, while giving sellers of these goods and services a simple, affordable means of generating genuine sales leads. FindsYou.com ensures that all users have a level playing field on which to trade, with sellers competing on product, price and service alone, and no preferential treatment given to franchises or well-established brands.

The internet start-up company is actively seeking buyers/sellers to post their ‘wants’ on the website. FindsYou.com offers a distinct alternative for sellers that have been dealt an unfair blow by universal search engines such as Google, which will typically display results with a strong bias towards organisations that advertise on the site or pay for search engine optimisation. With these websites generating millions of results for each search, it is becoming impossible for some companies to develop an internet presence, particularly given the growing online dominance of aggregation websites.

This search engine injustice is taking its toll on consumers too, many of whom are growing wary about the range of choice available to them, and making them reluctant to invest – particularly in expensive goods such as cars or houses – over the internet. This scepticism is also extending to popular auction websites, with users frustrated by the restrictions imposed on buyers in terms of timing, the information available, and the ability to contact the seller. Ultimately, these conditions serve to benefit only the auction companies themselves, rather than the people doing the trading.

In contrast, FindsYou.com puts buyers firmly in control of which sellers they choose to respond to, the level of contact they have, the timing of the sale and of course, the final offer they make. The website contains no advertising, and under the terms and conditions, sellers are only to contact buyers if they have items/services that genuinely match the buyers’ requests – ensuring that buyers do not get spammed with product details that they have no interest in.

The website is straightforward and easy-to-use from both a buyer and seller perspective, while registration takes no more than three minutes. From there, buyers can post simple wants (e.g. ‘Ford Fiesta – year 2000 onwards’ – that will then be continually matched against sellers’ inventories. This means that buyers do not have to spend time relisting their wants – as soon as a relevant seller is identified, they will be notified and given the ability to contact the buyer to progress the sale."
