We have recently noticed that Google is testing green backgrounds above and below the SERPs. This test seems to be happening only on a very limited number of datacentres in the UK.

I personally do not like the green backgrounds but I strongly believe the design improves click through rate for the premium ads and top organic listings because my eyes are constantly dragged towards the top green bar which means I'm focusing on the premium listings and not lower listed organic results. We've got screenshots and a more detailed description on our blog.

Has anyone else seen this?

I have recently spotted another SERP colour test on Google UK. This time Google swapped the colours round and tried a yellow bar and blue premium ads (much better than the green interface!). The ads used to be blue some time ago but the yellow bar is new, I think.

Also I came across this test on a Saturday, not a week day. I reckon Google don't need that much attention to their tests so went for a weekend test? I'm also wondering if they are using Google UK as a sandbox for new features?

I forgot to say I included few screen shots of the new test on our UK blog.
