This is something I never thought I'd see. If you log into your Analytics account you'll find a system message that talks about the data problems during the first week of May. It includes this line:

Please note that a small percentage of data, particularly in the area of e-commerce reporting, was not recoverable from those dates.
[W]as not recoverable! Wow, guess no matter how lauded your tech underpinnings are it really does pay to have that off-site backup handy ;-).

Wow. that's nuts. How does a company like Google lose data like that?

Well, it couldn't have been THAT serious... their stock is still flying high. ;)

Moral of the story, though... even Google isn't infallible. There are plenty of free stat parser programs out there you can run on your server "just in case" Google breaks Analytics again.

Come on guys, why don't you ask Google what happened the next time you pay your Google Analytics bill! :p
