View Full Version : Google spamming me!

Is it just me, or are you getting tired too of Googles aggresive marketing for their tracking service inside the AdWords administration?

I have said no to it, and no again, and no a few more times and they still don't grab it! Why do they keep taking up importan interface real estate with this marketing? How hard can it be to accept my "no, please", and then move on? Is it more important for Google to try and "sell" this service than it is to give me a good administration interface? I looks like it :(

Dear Google, please do not waste important space inside the administration tools. You are welcome to send me an e-mail if you have important new services, or even give me a call (I talk to my premium rep on a regular basis anyway).

The administration interface have one main pupose: To be able to administer your campaigns as easy and fast as possible! Anything that limit this is bad. Google should focus on making it better instead of cluttering it up with repetitive intrusive marketing - especially to those that already said very clear that they are not interested.

Enough for this Sunday's rant :)

I guess they don't place a cookie for the response and it just keeps loading... they could make a check box and add to the info for the account and that would fix it.

Yes, from a technical point of view this is not an issue - very easy to fix. But why on earth do they insist on pushing this marketing at me when I said "no, please" - either by clicking the link in the right column (that turn up on every new account) or by not responding to the other ad on the top - even after 100's of views.

Funny enough, the way they push this marketing goes against all the logic they preach to us about having users in focus. Isn't it kind of ironic that we have to accept spam in a tool that have strong anti spam guidelines? :)

Mikkel deMib Svendsen - it may, literally, be just you. ;) But seriously, this is the first time I've heard of this happening - and the system is in fact designed to leave you alone - and never bother you again - once you've said "No thanks".

To double check before posting, I created a quick test account, said 'No Thanks" logged out, logged back in, and the message was gone.

Not sure why it doesn't turn off for you - but my first guess is that it may have something to do with your settings regarding cookies, or perhaps a cache issue? You may want to clear cache, reboot, and log in from a fresh adwords.google.com page (rather than a bookmark) and see if this makes any difference.

Also, please feel free to write to AdWords support using the 'Contact Us' link within your account, and briefly detail what you have experienced. In your email, mention that AdWordsRep on Search Engine Watch asked that your email be forwarded to the tech team for review.

Here's hoping that the message goes away for you, and stays away, soon.

Just curious: is it not turning off for anyone else?

Mikkel deMib Svendsen, I hope that I can take the 'radio silence' as good news.

Or am I assuming too much...

No, it's not at all. The spam at the right goes away fine but what about the banner thak takes up 1/3 of the top screen estate basically promoting the tracking I just turned down? Why keep advertising it to me - I just want a clean and functional admin interface. If you have sales material for me, send it - don't spam me as I am working, please, my time is to valuable for that!

I don't see any way opf removing that top banner - it just stays there as a permanent pain in the butt cluttering up the interface. I really do not understand this strategy. Why is it so important to push this tracking service? Why won't you accept that we will not use it?

Ahh. Got it now.

Point well taken - and well stated too. I think the 'clean and functional' part is particularly compelling.

I'll figure out who the right people are in this case, and make sure they see your comments. Thanks for the reply.

Just ask them to apply to the same guidelines that you impose on us - the advertisers: When the CTR drops below 1% drop the add :)

I hope you do se the ironi in the fact that you allow spamming using an interface to administer marketing that limit us from exactly the same kind of spamming
