I think AOL is going to be a very big player in this area with their huge isp and aim user base. The thing that shocked me is that they are not working with Google on the AOL desktop search application according to the Cnet News article yesterday. Desktop search is where the whole industry is headed in my opinion.

Now it is revealed here on SEW and commented on by Andy Beal that Copernic will license its tech to AOL. Interesting in that Copernic has signed a letter of intent for acquisition by Mamma.com.
Andy suggests that AOL might want to acquire Copernic by offering a higher bid than Mamma's. I suggest Mamma will try to hold Copernic to the deal and Copenic will stick with fellow Canadian Mamma forcing AOL to take out both.
Does AOL need a metasearch product? No one can deny Mamma is a recognized "brand" now.
