Hi there,

I am seo/sem for a joomla! component site. Me and the owner have discussed about setting up a web site directory, advertising the site's we have done work for.

I am concerned about any link juice we may gain/lose as a result of this decision.

Does anyone know if hosting this on a seperate domain is a better idea? or would we loose the link juice?, and if we do host this on a seperate domain is it best to put product placement links on there so the crawlers come back to our page.

some direction so we dont get penalised would be gratefully appreciated.

kind regards
neil

a separate domain is better

I too feel it is better to have your directory hosted on a separate domain and have an out bound link to your original website. This outbound link would act as an inbound link for your website and as we know inbound links determines your PR.Also what is important here is how good you market your directory. If you are successful in marketing it properly and you get good visitors visiting your directory and you have a link placed on the home page you might just get visitors reverting to the original website.

Okay, we have the directory set-up. Obviously the idea is to get the directory high up the listings, so we may benefit from the pr. and then people will link to us.

Are there are any special rules I need to follow with regards to optimizing a directory. My problem is obviously the front page isnt going to have much content and as it a diectory a lot of lins.

How do I avoid penalization?

hope you can help
