Google Referral in Logs

I was looking through referrals to a site and saw the following referral in the logs:

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ads?client=ca-usatoday_500x282&random=1 (clicking on the link goes nowhere)

I understand that this is a Google referral from USA today, but what I'm trying to figure out is what type of referral?

Is this an AdWords referral, or an AdSense referral, or a referral from the Google-powered web search on the USA Today site...

Looks like an AdSense referral to me.

FYI FWIW: I have had these to my personal web site (http://www.komar.org/) ... which does run Adsense, but I do NOT use Adwords ... so it wouldn't make any sense for someone to be coming TO my site this route.

There's only a few of these/day, but I've always wondered what they are.

Yeah... found out they definitely are AdSense referrals... It would be great if I could see the actual pages they ran on.
