So I have 1 adgroup with 5 variations. They have run for approximately one month. Not all of them have run the same length
Stats Clicks Ctr
Var 1 42 21.4%
Var 2 9 20.5%
Var 3 32 16.8%
var 4 32 15.8%
var 5 1,156 13.0%
Interestingly var 2 is me trying out abbottsys suggestion to repeat the headline in line 2 and 3. Have run it for two days. It's INSANE...lol
Anyway, my real question is do you drop var 5, maybe var 4 and even var 3 and then try new variations of var 1 and 2?
Roligan
ps. var 6 just has the headline and nothin in line 2 and 3. Stats: Impr. 40, clicks 2, CTR 5%

you really need to know what the conversion numbers are... otherwise you are selecting based on what gets a click as opposed to what gets a customer

Problem is that I'm using one of those self build websites and it's not possible to put the google conversion tracking code on my site. All people do is ask for a quote so I'll have to assume they all behave the same once they click thru to my site. I know that might not be right but it's the only assumption I can make.
So assuming that all CTR have the same conversion rate what would your answer then be?
Thanks

You are pumping money into this site, so why not get a proper site as well?

AdWords performance is never going to come close to its full potential w/o conversion tracking.

Get off where you are so you can actually optimize your incoming traffic.... it could easily double or triple your conversions

You definitely need conversion tracking.
I'd also suggest that in order to get an accurate read, you need to start all ad versions at the same time. Also make sure you have selected "rotate my ads evenly" instead of "optimize" in the campaign settings. Otherwise you won't get a fair read on results if one ad is shown way more or less than others.

Agreeing with what everyone has written above, I'll add a piece about your actual stats.
I don't think you've reached statistical significance with the number of clicks you're seeing on ads # 1-4. And, while you have seen that on ad # 5, which is obviously the oldest of the bunch, I would hesitate removing it just yet because if the others tank or slowing sink, you'll lose your good Quality Score history that you've established with ad #5. If anything, you could pause ad #5, but don't delete it just yet.

I would tend to agree with this... pausing the ad will not delete the historical information
