Ahhh, now that makes a bit more sense than walking up cold and jostling through the crowd of 40 or so on the sidewalk who are already waiting to get in.

One very good thing about the pubs being on the West Side are that most of the, erm, uniformed celebrants stay on the East Side after the end of the parade ('cept maybe for those heading to Kennedy's).

Hello everyone I am the 'desingated Irish person' for the event. I have lived in the United States for 11 years and this is my first time in New York on St. Patrick's Day. So its going to be a surprise for me too. I drafted in the relatives who live there to help confirm the list of pubs and they will be coming with us on the pub crawl. I hear Matt from SES and Matt from Connors have a few contacts there too. If all else fails and it really is hard to get in anywhere or get a drink then we can go back to the Hilton and make our own party. I promise not to dance that's not pretty since the knees packed up but I may have to sing in honor of the occasion.

This will be my first SE conference. My current plans are to travel from Washington DC on the 18th to attend the SES conference, the Best of Web event following, and anywhere else that I can.

Leaving early on the 19th to return.

I can only spare 1 day. Any suggestions from veterans here for a first time SES visitor?

Just introduce yourself and talk to as many people as you can. Bring plenty of business cards. Buy me a beer.

Since you only have one day, be sure to plan which sessions you want to attend. (I usually try to catch something I don't know anything about just to broaden my knowledge a bit; whether I use it or not, at least I know it exists.) No matter what you do though, be sure to talk to people -- any people -- you never know what you'll learn.
