I have to start a project for a new client. They want us to build a landing page for their star product. They want to know if it is worth buying a new domain specific for the new product or if they should use a www.example.com/landing-page/starproduct

I tend to go with the new domain but can't really back my answer with other than gut feeling. Can anyone help me come up with a good reason why I am wrong or right?

Thanks for the help.

The best example would probably be CitiBank.com and www.CitiMortgage.com. The client's largest marketing budget will go towards the landing page's product.

the domain will have more impact in algorithm than a landing page

If client have not much content (one or two page about product), go for landing page on same website. If he have sufficient content (at least 10-20 pages) to write, go for new domain.

New domain is more better but there should be sufficient content to support new content.
