I'll be arriving with Christine Churchill on Sunday afternoon some time. We're planning on doing some sightseeing for the few days before the conference. We will be leaving on Friday morning.
So what's worth seeing there? Any suggestions?

I am getting in on the 26th in the afternoon from Copenhagen. I am out to Helsinki on Friday. I'll see everyone at the Sheraton.
Jill... the hop on hop off city tour is not bad. Great walking around Gamla Stan "Old Town" -- the National Museum has a nice collection. The Vasa museum is interesting -- a refurbished boat they retrived from teh harbor that sank in the 1600's.
Joe - we should try to set up a "get together" for eveyone at the Grand Hotel's smorgesbord on Wednesday night or Friday night. The Grand hotel is about 3 blocks from the Sheraton and they have the best one going. I think they have over 50 variations of herring...

Bill, glad you mentioned the Vasa Museum, I had heard of it and wanted to visit but wasn't sure of the name and I had been asking around. Sure, definately want to plan a get together but I depart on Friday morning so Wednesday would work best for me.

For a good overview of what to do in Stockholm there is the official tourism site http://www.stockholmtown.com/templates/Startpage___2023__EN.aspx
The Stockholm card is a pretty good deal if you are going to be there a few days and take the subway and boats to get around.
For those of you flying in, your best best to get downtown is to take the Arlanda Express train. It leaves the airport for the central station about every 20 mins. The cost is 120 SEK [$17]. Another option is the airport bus which takes about 35 minutes and is half the price at 60 SEK [$8.50]. A taxi from the airport will be a fixed price of about 400 SEK [$50] if you get an official cab and will take about the same time as the train with the exception you can be dropped at the hotel.
The central station is about 10 minute walk from the Sheraton or you can take a taxi.

Bill,
Thanks for this information.
I will be arriving at 9:20 Wednesday morning at Arlanda Airport. I will like to get to the conference ASAP. Is taxi the best bet? What is the quickest method? And how long, approx., will it take?
Thanks.

Taxi's definitely the fastest way, Barry - you'd have to either walk or catch a cab from the train station to the hotel, which would add time. It's about a 35 minute ride.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Thanks Chris, taxi it is. I'll miss the first session and probably a bit of the last session.

In Tuesday afternoon.
In bar Tuesday evening looking forward to resuming old conversations from wherever we last met in a bar - and starting new ones if we haven't previously had the pleasure.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

It wouldn't be a conference without seeing Barry sitting in the bar! :D
