Launched in January 1994, Galaxy was the first searchable Internet directory. Galaxy was created as part of the Einet division at the MCC Research Consortium at the University of Texas, Austin. The original initiative was to develop tools for large-scale directory services to support electronic commerce.

Site shows 23 backlinks in G and 34,000 in Y!

Now its never been the best structured site but what did they do to incur such wrath from Google?

I have no proof of anything, but Galaxy never struck me as a directory intended for human visitors to use. I think Galaxy got sent to the gulag back when Google was making examples of certain sites it thought might be manipulating PR.

Well there was a time when the "whats new" page had a high value, as far as I recall they had no clue why.

Any other ideas?

Galaxy changed owners...could be Google striped the value from the old inbounds, and only counts the inbounds acquired post transfer of ownership?

That doesn't "fit" imho, but could be a piece of it.

Next guess?
