OK, I know this is an adwords feature, but I am a publisher who uses adsense and was wondering if anyone knew how we can use this feature to generate more revenue.

We logged into adwords (I don't have an adwords account, but we use it to look up what keywords are paying)and saw a new tab - "Site Related Keywords".

https://adwords.google.com/

I put in http://forums.searchenginewatch.com, but could have put in our site too (and we did). I added the term SEO and selected show all columns. Then I put in $100 in the "Calculate Estimates using Max CPC: " field. No one is bidding more than $100 a click I think, so this gave me the highest bids.

This is the question: As a publisher, how can we use this data to increase revenue?

SEO Elite is a tool that can try to predict the bid distribution for a keyoword on adwords. This might help squeeze more bucks out of every dollar spent on it.

Kind regards,

Raj

Thanks for responding to my post raj. I will have to check it out. I know there has to be some sort of advantage we can pull from the information.

I noticed that the figures given at adwords were typically higher than what I was getting on my site. Most clicks there were about $8 - $10 per click for the subjects I target. Sure we have gotten $15 or more per click (maybe once or twice a year), but most of our clicks on the keywords we target are about $2 - $4.

This could be because people are clicking on the lower paying clicks. Also, it could be because those ads that pay more don't have text that prompts the clicks.

Those are my thoughts.

Making sure the keywords are in the title, description and on the page will help lower your costs

Ranking high for those expensive words so users visit your site and click those high dollar ads is one avenue to consider.

Specific advice for you Dan01, the best result isn't necessarily a web page. When it comes to learning a sport, building a house or scientific research, video is most often a relevant result. Use your video expertise to your advantage by outranking others for high $ terms. As a result users will click on your site in search engine results and then your high dollar ads above and below your video in the page. ;)

I noticed something a few weeks ago. Our websites went down for two days because our host deleted everything. They thought we didn't pay, but we were paid through Aug 2008 (dumb dumbs!). So we switched hosts and pointed our domains to a new server in Utah. We noticed that we were still generating a little revenue even though we didn't have our sites up. We talked about it and believe people have been taking our content with the ads included an placing it on their sites.

I didn't want to start a new thread to mention this, but it was an interesting situation.

We still have those "40 click for 33 cent" articles. :D Those are the high traffic articles, and I do like to see some traffic. I noticed that the higher pay clicks are associated with lower traffic articles (lets face it, how much is someone going to pay for a ringtone? - but what about a mortgage?) But interestingly, even though the article may get less traffic (but higher pay), the click through rate is also higher.

But my wife and I play what reminds me of a video game - a series of repetitive actions to push the bottom line up. We do concentrate on the higher payers.
