Let's suppose you sell widgets, but you want to discover the extent of "associated keywords" that Google knows about without spending money on the widgets keyword itself.

Just run your ad on a keyword set like this:

-[widgets]
-"widgets"
widgets

Anyone else use this method?

Yup... thats what I do. Set [keyword] with highest bid, "keyword" with next highest then the broad matched keyword with the lowest bid.

Then I check the sales query reports... add the variations that are doing well to the campaign and exclude the variations that are not converting.
