View Full Version : Are you an AdWords Addict?

I know I am. I keep it open all day while I'm in the office so I can constantly monitor and tweek. And certainly no automated "bid management" systems for me, I need total custom control to keep things optimized and constantly react to new opportunities.

AdWords is kinda like day trading to me.

But, I'm wondering how others use it. So, how do you use AdWords, and are you an AdWords Addict :)

I would say that I patrol the adspace more than the management. I wanna know whos bidding on what keywords, what copy thier using, what price their selling their product at.

I consider myself and adwords "adhawk"

Hahah! Just did a search on that (using the Ads Preview Tool of course), but saw no results mentioning AdWords addiction. ;)

I may just jump in later with my own (working for) AdWords addiction story.

Fun topic, abbottsys. :)

Indeed, and it gets better. I just Googled Adwords Addict and this thread is #1 :)

Yes indeed. This thread made it to #1 in the google organics for keyword AdWords Addict in under 6 hours. Actually, I wasn't watching that closely, but I bet it was more like 1 hour. So, us SEM folks can teach the SEO folks a few tricks. Of course, I won't be totally happy until I see AdWords Addict Ads.

So, does anyone else have an AdWords Addict story or confession :)

OK I confess to logging into accounts probably more than I should...although it can be very useful when testing new adgroups, copy and changing bids. I always like to have a close eye on what is going on.

I even sometimes go and take a peak when I have a day off.

in the words of one venerable Axl Rose Adwords and SEO sage:

"I used to do a little but a little wasn't doing, so a little got more and more, I just keep trying to get a little higher, said a little higher than before"

Organics + PPC = SEO Speedball

hahah this thread is classic! Personally, when I've got a campaign running, I'm checking my stats CONSTANTLY! Do a little work, spend a little hour on AdWords... read a paragraph, create a new AdGroup. It's bad!

Good luck with that new AdWords campaign. ;) But, even more so, best of success with the new blog!

Thanks AWR. I like to think it's a Google Triple Play... an AdWords campaign driving traffic to a Blogger blog which carries AdSense Ads. We can ignore the Gmail email address, since Quadruple Play does not sound quite as smooth from a marketing point of view :)

Of course, my next job is to head over to the AdSense Forum and ask if anyone knows why the AdSense ads on my blog don't match the content ;-)

Hey! Let's call it a case-study, and let us know the results. ;)

Good point. Domains are a big adwords topic which I'll be blogging about soon. Of course, if you want to get an "adwords friendly URL" at no cost you can always use a blog, where almost all names are available. For example, I use..

http://adwords-addict.blogspot.com

..with superb results.

Remember, something like your-keywords-here.blogspot.com is very SEM friendly even though it would be a total pain to type into the browser address bar.

anything that ends in blogspot.com automatically gets downgraded at least a half a click in my book.

But not in AdWords book. Of course, if you want a SEM friendly domain (as opposed to just a SEM friendly URL) you can always pop over to godaddy and register the same kind of thing, such as my-keywords-here.com and AdWords will like that also :)

I would suspect that removing the dot blogspot from your display url would result in a higher CTR...just rampant speculation.

Possibly. But messing with display URLs is not a good idea. At some point adwords will notice the mismatch between display domain and landing page domain, and not be happy :)

my point exactly...and were full circle back to godaddy extracting 8 bucks from your wallet.

I am definitely an addict. After 12 hours of working with it sometimes I dream about it too. So sad.

AdWords dreams! Wow, that's impressive. You're a real addict. Do you get any deep AdWords insights in these dreams that you can share with us? :)

I'm not sure if I'm an addict, but I think I have been picking up signals from friends and family.

When I visit their homes, it seems all their computers are powered off?

In conversation they never bring up marketing.

And worst of all is that if they do bring up the internet at all they intentionally torment me by replacing Google with Findology and ABCsearch.

Just Findology it, or its as easy as ABCsearch

Ahhhhh

AdWords dreams! Wow, that's impressive. You're a real addict.... True story: I have been with the AdWords team for 5 1/2 years and have spent (conservatively) more than 15 thousand waking hours thinking about AdWords. The kicker is that, even after all this time, I still dream about AdWords at least once a week - and usually more.

Not sure what that makes me, but addict might cover it. ;)

Nice confession AWR :)
Here's mine: I log off AdWords when I leave the office, take a short 20 minute drive home, then walk straight into the house and log back on to see what I missed.

Is AdWords the world's first 24/7 market?
