I want to easily find out where my site is listed in google for my basic keywords. eg. Weddings scotland. How do i use google so that i can find out at what position in their listings my site appears for that keywords? Is there a way of typing in your query that can tell you this?
Also would be handy to do the same for MSN, Yahoo, Askjeeves etc?

There's no command that will simply retrieve your rankings other than simple search. You can make the process go faster by selecting 100 results per page in your Google options, and there's always the simplified results search http://www.google.com/ie?q=keyword which displays a numbered list of the page titles.
Beyond that there are some sites that will monitor your rankings. The Google Webmaster Tools console will give you a report on your best rankings. A few searches on 'ranking tool' should give you some good choices.

digitalpoint used to have a good one but the change in the api key makes it hard... it does still work for msn and yahoo

I don't check SERPs that often, but when I do I use rainborick's 100 results per page hint. To save my tired, old eyes I first visit the page I expect to find in the SERPs so the SERP title link shows as visited.
