Are there any methods for preventing competitors from bidding on our brand/trademarked terms? In the US/Canada, Google will only prevent competitors from using these terms in their ad copy.

You can try a cease and desist but easiest way is to advertise for their names and then get contact info and agree to drop them if they drop you.

To be honest, this is something that we do. We're in a highly competitive industry, and while organically we rank very well, we know there are eyes missing us. Our ads say nothing of the competitor; they just highlight our good points.
Yes this is a bit of a gray area, but I agree...if they are doing it to you, do it to them.

I wasn't saying it was wrong... it actually is a great move for smaller competitors who can coattail the big brands recognition

Yeah, try the cease and desist and try and scare them. Or drop us if we drop you.
