I am starting to see some decent results in my google results and other search engine results. But i feel i should be higher than some other websites when i investigate further.
The only possible reason I can think of is that My domain is 1999 registed but i redesigned the site in April 2007 so the actual internal pages are only 6 months old and most of the links to the site are new since April. How long will it take my site to age so that i start to rank where i belong??
Cheers
You are "ranking" where you belong right now.. SE's / Google is the judge...
Anyway back to the point ... You need to remeber linkage and link power.. Some pass value fast some take longer.. If the links are from April this year then you may need to wait..
Google pretty fast and I the links are natural then ranking even for new sites is really fast..
As always look at whois is around you and why other site outrank you..
You say you should be ranked higher and if thats true then people will naturally link to your "amazing" site and your be #1 with no seo need lol...

I've heard figures of around 9 months before a new site will appear without the new pages being too much of an issue.

Why didn't you 301 the old pages to the new ones when you redesigned or did the redesign involve a complete change of web site topic as well?
no info.. first post and saying where I belong LOL.. need I say more..

Wow. That's audacity! My man here says "Behold! Here I am Google - I feel I should be ranking higher - how long before I rank where I feel I belong, namely #1!"
Good grief.
If you are not ranking well organically, you are probably doing lots of things wrong and/or not doing enough.
Do you have inbound links? Do you have lots of them? Are your inbound links targeted for your keywords?
Do you have duplicate content penalties? Do you have canonical URL problems?
Are your content optimized? Do you have your pages indexed?
There are so many things that go into ranking a website - and AGING is only one small speck in that.
Oh and by the way - just so you know - your site's age can be superseded by linking - as in, if you created an awesome Myspace graphics site and got lots of myspace users to use your stuff and you get links from them - and subsequently they tell their friends about your site ,etc etc. - then technically, you could a site that is 1 year old but full of tens of thousands of links - and rank well. So Aging is not the gatekeeper to ranking.
