Suddenly the rank of my site went to a way lower position on search engines results (for different keywords). Not only on google, but also altavista. Is such a fluctuating normal? Or am I being punished for "link building" which involves advertising on other sites, hoping to boost both PR and traffic to my site.

I really hope that my website is not against search engine rules, so that I am being punished for that. If so, I would like to know what should be done to reverse the situation.

Anyway, my question; is it normal for a website to suddenly lose position in search engines. If so, what should be done to reverse that?

I do have a possible explenation for the position drop; maybe my website went up in position on other keywords, and down on these keywords???

Thanks.

What would make you think your website is against search engine rules?

Well, there are soo many search engine rules and it is not easy to evade them, especially if you want to optimalize your website for higher rank (PageRank). Because there was a sudden drop in rank, I feel that I am being punished for something. But there is no particular reason I would think that my site is against rules, for example, I have never received any complaint email.

I have recently bought some links to my site and I am afraid that this might be against search engine rules. I fear that this may be the consequence. But I am not sure ofcourse. The fluctuating in rank may be something different.
