Thanks for your concern, Phil.
As it turns out, they lied. No one ever tried to contact me. Just checked my messages from the week, and there was nothing from any reporters or anything like that.

Maybe he just didn't leave a message. Many people just hang up when the answering machine comes on.

Caller ID should save any numbers until you clear it. I would think she could check that way, maybe even call the guy back if he did indeed try to call and not left a message and get a followup story done.

If he called, he did it as a private or unknown caller because I did check the caller ID for this past week's calls and there weren't any from this person, from Traffic Power, or any other entity that could be tied to this article or was from Las Vegas.
Any reporter doing a story (any real reporter) would at least leave a message, if not email.
Anyone who calls me and doesn't leave a message will most likely not get me because I screen calls.

Judging by Aaron's experience, perhaps you'd better not, or they will misrepresent what you say.
judging by the "article" they just wanted to list a couple names to try to make it sound real. they were not interested in fact collecting.
its a shame that they listed Morgan (SEO Guy) as Mark Carey and did not follow up with any of the resources I mentioned.

I told him that you were exceptionally easy to get ahold of via your site...either through pm or email and our reporter told me (and I do believe this is exceptionally close to - if not exactly - what his verbatim response was) "You see I don't really want to do that. if I message her or send her an email she might say no."
he did not want to collect any real info, he just wanted to write a story...bet he got paid for it too.
it was a while ago that I spoke to the clown. probably about a month or so ago

By having this kind of article listed as a "Web Exclusive," I guess that means there's no way they would ever print that. Is there a "Las vegas Tribune?"
I really hope to get to explain to someone what a crock the article is.
It is simply amazing that they can make it seem like Jill Whalen chose not to comment on this matter when it appears they didn't even contact her, based on this discussion.
How sickening are these people anyway? It seems like they are bent on destroying the credibility of the entire industry.

Is this for real?
I wonder how many hours my comment will stay up for... I suspect very few.
hehe, entertaining reading today.

How stupid is this. The author has obvious connections to TP, or he's just a Jr. High School paper writer.

It's just somebody writing a silly message, that's all - nothing to do with anyone currently at TP.

We may be talking about two separate authors. I was speaking about the author of the story. Were you as well, or were you talking about the kid who posted a comment about the article on their discusion board?

Ah! I think you're right. I was referring to the message at the end of the link that kathleenitomic posted - not the Tribune(?) article. :o

That post is pretty funny, but obviously posted by someone that doesn't like TP. No one would blantantly claim to be so devious...but it's really a good laugh. the one problem is I got three pop-ups that came through my system somehow by going to the lasvegastrib site...pretty powerful software they're running over there...

Surely it can be no coincidence that Traffic Power is an anagram of 'Crap, write off'?
ha! funny.

Anybody have any news on if anybody is trying to get these sites shut down? The site I run (ozzu) is being defamed as well. The funny thing is that we do not even have SEO clients, yet they are making it out like we do.
However the reason I am posting here is because a member of my forum was seaching MSN for ozzu and found this forum defaming us as result #2. Goto msn.com and search for ozzu, you will see that there are numerous results on the main page from these scammers trying to give Ozzu a bad image.
I read the first few pages of this thread at searchenginewatch but skipped many because I noticed this topic was being discussed way back in June of 2004 and still it seems they are not shut down.
Very sad that these guys can get away with this.

As far as I know, Google has penalised the sites - presumably because they are basically "hate" sites. A message to MSN from their "Help us improve" form, stating that you found the "hate" sites in their results, and including a link to this thread, might have the desired effect.
