Anyone know or experience how people search commercials in YouTube & if that generates any useful data?

As a user, I search by something general like "cadillac commercial" or "wii commercial"

Even better is if I search for "wii commercial song" or "wii commercial music" - and often, YouTube is on the top; I get data from the user comments about what song is used in the commercial, etc.

Anyone got information on whether or not YouTube has found a way to harness or harvest that kind of data? I bet they can monetize that BETTER than selling ads and getting into trouble for "pirating" video content.

YouTube is owned by Google so, I'm sure they have lots of data.

You can advertise on YouTube and it's the 9th largest web destination with 2 Billion page views a month. Advertisers can see how many times their videos has been viewed as well as get other simple data but they can also target media by age, gender, time of day and/or other.

You might also check out the YouTube developer site for more advanced functionality.

Hmm. Cute link with cute tools. Not the search data I was looking for. Also, just cause Google owns YouTube don't mean they sharing info to the public. We aint seen nothing from Doubleclick via Google is we?

But them tools are cute tho.

Sorry, you didn't mention "sharing info to the public" in your original question!

Beu you right. I didn't. Brain fart and didn't make myself clear.

Guess for now, the best thing is to look at commercial searches. But I'd be curious about any research on the impact of commercial keyword searches and views & # or frequency of uploads of particular commercials.

Are there any metrics of a commercials' longevity - leading to brand recognition or whatever via YouTube?

Yes because your question and that data may be part of the reason Google picked up YouTube.
