Affiliate publishing

I recently decided to add some relevant affiliates to my website and since doing so it seems my website has gone "dormant" I am getting hits but no action. I am wondering if affiliate advertising/publishing is a detrimant to my site. I have a pr3 on google and can't understand why it slowed down?

Anyone have any advice on Affiliate publishing/advertising good or bad :confused:
