I've heard, and of course I may be mistaken, that there is a time lapse from between when (a) the crawlers first detect a new page and (b) when it helps to log the actual page content.

Is this right? This is for a well established site.

I am asking since I have many new pages being deployed and need extra time to generate unique content. If I can, I'll link them up now and have greater uniqueness established within 3-4 days. Might as well reduce the wait time!

I think what you are meaning to say is true. Crawlers are always looking for new content but it can take a few days - months to show up in the SERPS. Good luck!
