View Full Version : Excluding sites

Hi,

I've been trying to exclude some sites from my campaigns, for example monstermarkeplace.com and upspiral.com (amongst others). The clicks I get from these sites never convert to sales for me and also (for me) they appear to drive very low quality traffic as my web analytics reports them as having very low page views per visit compared to every other site.

The feedback I got from Google is that these sites are part of the Google Search Network and so the site exclusion tool won't work and the only way to exclude them is to opt out of the entire search network. This I don't want to do as, for me, a number of the other sites do convert eg AOL

Does anyone know a way around this? Its really frustrating and is preventing me from expanding my campaigns as I don't feel confident in the control I have over them.

Thanks :)

1. Ask your Google rep to remove your ads from those sites. It can be done.

2. Failing that, set up two identical campaigns. Set one to Google Search only, with higher bids. Set the other to Google and Search Network, with lower bids than the first, taking into account the low-quality traffic. While not a perfect solution, this will allow you to continue to get traffic from the good search partners yet not overpay for it; and you can pay more for the Google.com traffic which I assume converts well for you.

Good advice Melissa....

Unfortunately you have to go through a rep to get a shot at having a search partner disassociated from your account.

Many thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I only spend just over £15k/year on my Adwords account and so I don't have a rep assigned. I tried speaking with customer services but they vehemently denied it was possible for a rep to set up this kind of exclusion and refused to give me any info on what I would need to spend each month to get a rep assigned.

Crazy in some ways as if only I could exclude these sites, I'd increase my spend pretty significantly. I did mention that but it wasn't of any interest. I guess they have enough money now so they don't need any hassle in order to get more from me :(
