I would much appreciate any advice/help on the following:
I am having problems with getting placed in Google for www.compair.com under their company name - Compair. They should be on the first page at least preferably at the top - instead they are on page 4/5
Compair.com is the main global site with some european subsidiaries and sister companies in the States, Canada and Australia. The other sites don't generally have a problem coming up under their Google terratorial areas - only google.com under the UK (and it is hosted in the uk). There is a co.uk version but it's currently inactive - but we had this problem even when it was active.
The main problem seems to be that the Canada site gets the top placement in the UK 'the web' directory (and I'm guessing this may be reason why compair.com does so poorly). We have made text changes to the sites to eliminate duplicate content which hasn't made a difference.
I have therefore been looking at inbound links; compair.com has about 2,600 and compair.ca about 50 (although this is only approximate as I don't have full access to webmaster tools for compair.ca).
However, compair.com's links are a mix of all sorts (and it would take ages to go through and see how many quality ones there are - although there should be a substantial amount as these would have built up over time - not link farms!).
However, Compair.ca's links are mainly from international yahoo directories
including UK (of which compair.com hasn't been listed).
Therefore perhaps the next step would be get Compair.com listed in yahoo dirctories particularly UK but this involves money! I would really appreciate
views if this could be what is causing compair.ca's preference in google UK to
compair.com?
In the Google UK listing, Canada isn't showing up but a whole load of directories are that advertise Compair - however, Compair.com should still be at the top of these for 'Compair' so I don't know if is still being affected by canada.ca in some way.
I have been on the forum previously about this site and had some feedback about re-organasing the structure but the main compair site is organised with it's European subsidaries. The canada site will want to keep their own site so we can't bring them into the same website. S
If anyone has any other suggestions about wthis I would much appreciate it.
thanks!
